The Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive was first made effective in 2003 and is periodically revised by the European Commission. The most recent implementation and changes can be found on the Commission's RoHS webpage.
"The RoHS Directive currently restricts the use of ten substances: lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP).
All products with an electrical and electronic component, unless specifically excluded, have to comply with these restrictions."
Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is an EU regulation managed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). REACH is an extremely complex regulation and the user is advised to consult the ECHA website.
