8/25/21 - Addendum: NIST has just published an excellent article about testing UVC reflection of different materials at LINK in the Journal of Research of the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
- Pure metals (best reflectance is achieved with high purity thin films on glass)
- Stainless Steel Alloys (low reflectance but better than nothing)
- POREX Virtek PTFE (High scattering reflectance, formable material). Similar to MCPET in the visible wavelengths but tougher.
For the metals cited, there are a huge variety of specific alloys, surface conditions, and test is recommended for specific materials.
Material | Reflectance (scattering) |
e-PTFE | 95% (highly scattering) |
Aluminum Thin Film on Glass | 85% (specular) |
Aluminum (sheet and foils) | ~70% (depends on surface finish) |
Platinum Thin Film on Glass | ~55% (specular) |
Gold Thin Film on Glass | ~40% (specular) |
Rhodium Thin Film on Glass | ~30% (specular) |
Copper Thin Film on Glass | ~30% (specular) |
Stainless Steel (sheets and foils) | 20-30% (depends on surface finish) |
Silver Thin Film on Glass | ~15% (specular) |
