12/7/21 - We added lumens to the calculator.
The Luminus Horticulture Calculator is a tool that system designers can use to calculate the PPF distribution for combinations of Luminus LEDs, compare these to desired light "recipes", and predict the efficiency of the LED components (PPF/W) for those seeking DLC certification at the fixture level. The nomenclature used matches the DLC definitions and will not be discussed here.
Inputs:
- Luminus Part Number
- Number of LEDs
- LED Current(s)
- Estimated Junction Temperature for each LED
Outputs:
Table 1 contains values calculated for individual part numbers. The forward voltage, electrical power consumption, generated optical power, wall plug efficiency, PPF from 400-700 nm, PF from 300-830 nm, and the LED efficiencies and % contributions to the total PPF are calculated. The totals column contains the values that DLC is most interested in. The individual values let you tweak the recipe more efficiently.
Table 2 contains the combined LED output. The PPF in the wavelength ranges defined by DLC, %PAR for the 400-700 nm range, and the %Photons for the entire range of LEDs are calculated. This table is an aid for designers that know roughly what color band ratios they want to produce in a fixture.
The plot is a visualization tool. It is in PPF and displays the actual values predicted by the model (not normalized).
You can save model results in CSV files. This requires you to register and login to the calculator. Be aware that when you log in, the contents of the calculator are erased. If you plan on saving files it is best to login before using the calculator. Luminus hashes your password but we recommend that you use a unique password for this site to protect yourself. Luminus tracks usage of the calculator by counting logins and occasionally looks at the data.
The download files are named Horticulture_Calculator_Support(x).csv and they automatically increment the number if you download multiple files.
The contents of a downloaded file are shown below. The contents of Table 1 and Table 2 and a table containing the PPF values by wavelength for each part number selected are included on the file.
